Finally done with my AR.... For now

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to share a couple pics of my AR.
I think she turned out very nice. Now the only thing left on my list is optics, but that wont be for a while. Enjoy. Oh ya almost forgot, I know, know, it isn't an AK.

Did you build that from "scratch"? Or did you just add all the accessories?
Either way, looks great! How does it shoot?
I've got 2 lowers sitting around waiting to be built. Mine wont look anything like that though! (I live in California)

Started out already built. But I definitely plan on building my next AR from scratch. She shoots great and is 100% reliable. I still need to sight in these BUIS though. Good luck on your builds. California does suck when it comes to AR's and AK's.

Weirdest lookin AK I've ever seen, what did you put on it to make it look like one of the guns our stormtroopers use? :bull-buddy-icon:

It's no secret that I'm not an AR fan but that is a pretty good setup. I would probably lose the irons for an optical sight. One question, what kind of sling is that? Looks a little like a krieg or maybe a Wolf hook?

VTAC MK2.
Optics is next on my list, but I have to save up for that so it will take a bit of time.

Nice. Much love for the side by side!

The AR's are a sink hole on the wallet with all the add-on's. Enough is never enough, different upper recivers ect, ect.

The AK's are far, far easier on the checking account. And slightly cheaper ammo too.

Kolya

Which manufacture did you go with?

Bushmaster perhaps?

Everyone with a 16 in. barrel AR is looking to pick-up a 20 or 24 in. barrel, and visa versa. The aftermarket deluge is unending.

You must be dreaming! You live in the same state as me, where the notorious "Assault Weapons Ban" is still alive. This means if me or you want to buy AR's or AK's they must be pre-ban. Have you looked at prices of pre-ban AK's? I have been in the market for a pre-ban AK for almost a year now. I can't find any decent AK (not a POS Hungarian model but at least a Norinco or Polytech which even those are made in China) for under $1200.

I purchased my AR-15 for $1150 several months ago - unfired, new in box. Came with original box, papers accessories. Good luck trying to do that with an AK...

Yeah I'm in the category of folk looking to get a shorter barrel. But instead of a shorter barrel, I'm just going to try to find a pre-ban AR-15 in carbine style. Something with telescopic stock too. Will be easier to maneuver around the inside of a house with.

Two or three years ago I picked up a new Romanian WASR 10 for little over $400 with tax. It's a great gun.

Started out as a RRA Elite CAR. For my next AR I'm going to start out with a Stag lower and see what happens. :D

I saw one at Hunter Sports in Merrick or Massapequa Park for $240, but thats long island. They don't have to be preban once you get them (edited to be more clear) as no one will give you a hard time. Just say the guy you bought it from said it was preban. I've bought them sans bayo lug & threaded barrel for $280, then Hunter Sports $30 transfer and $20 shipping or so. I was a little ticked off when I saw they had one for $240, but mine was in decent shape so I wasn't too pissed.

Also: a little secret on those 30 round mags for AK's: they're all preban :bull-buddy-icon:

I try not to shop at T&T, they're absolutely ridiculous as far as pricing goes, their AK's are up to $469 last I checked and they're not the greatest in quality. I buy ammo there, but only if I really, really, really have to. If you try to do a transfer through them, on an item they stock, they charge you the difference. $299 for a WASR-2? $160 transfer fee. Dicks :rolleyes_m:

Dammit......you're supposed to keep yer trap shut so I can hoarde them at cheap prices ! :D

BTW - What about 40-rnd mags, are they all preban as well ? drums too ?

Re: Finally done with my AR.... For now

The only differences that I’m aware of between Pre-ban or whatever the standard is in N.Y. are ……

1. no bayonet lug.
2. no flash suppressor.

And to the best of my knowledge that is all that separates any semi-auto assault type rifle, from the condition of the same rifle sold in any other state, except perhaps, California.

I don't mind dealing with "the fat man" at T&T he's been good to me in the past.

Re: Finally done with my AR.... For now

Truth be told, thats a very nice AR, i almost bought a RRA lower and a DPMS upper at a gunshop, mainly because of the same accessories you have on yours. If I'm not mistaken... magpul MIAD grip and CTR stock? I never liked the A2 grip on the AR15, but after seeing one of those, I really considered getting the gun to go with it :D

Theres no date stamp, I'm not going to name names, but certain unsavory gun shop owners have ways and means of mysteriously always having "pre-ban" high cap magazines, which, bare no difference from the post-ban evil ones. Its almost like they ship them in from pennsylvania and charge you $35 (the real crime, haha) per mag for their "pre-ban" mags with no date stamps, but that would just be a baseless accusation...

I've got two pre-ban 75 round norinco drums. Don't ask, don't tell. I'll be moving to VT though, so I won't have to worry about bans :D Until the new one...

Which one? The more bald one or the less bald one? The less bald one is cool, fun to BS with about hunting and such.
